Establishment card in Qatar: fees, documents and renewal
An establishment card in Qatar is the company's registration with the Ministry of Interior. Issue and renewal both run through the Metrash app, and each costs QAR 200.
Your first visa application is ready, or a renewal has stalled, and the request asks for the company's establishment card. The card is a small document, and the immigration work waiting on it cannot move until it is in order.
An establishment card in Qatar is the company's registration with the Ministry of Interior, issued to the person authorised on the commercial register and commercial licence. Businesses call it the computer card, and the two names mean the same document. Issue and renewal both run through the Metrash app, and each costs QAR 200.
Why the establishment card holds up so much
- The commercial register. The establishment card in Qatar can only be issued while the commercial register is active at MOCI.
- The commercial licence. The licence must also be active at MOCI, and it renews on its own cycle.
- The person applying. The person who submits the request must be authorised by MOCI, so a manager without that authority cannot apply.
The application takes a few screens in Metrash. The difficulty is that the Ministry of Interior checks your company's standing at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) before it accepts the request, and those three checks are what trip companies up.
Each condition sits with MOCI, while the card itself sits with the Ministry of Interior. A problem at one ministry shows up as a rejection at the other.
A branch adds one more condition. The main establishment must be active before a branch card can be issued, so a lapse at head office stops every branch behind it.

What the card process looks like
- You renewed the commercial licence and assumed the card followed it
- The person who held the Metrash access has left the company
- You opened a branch and applied before the main establishment was in order
- You are looking for the plastic card in a drawer, and there is none
Those are the common situations. Many owners meet the card for the first time when an employee visa is waiting on it. Before that, it is a line on a setup checklist that someone else ticked.
The company computer card in Qatar holds the details the Ministry of Interior has on file for your establishment. When those details fall behind your MOCI records, the card stops matching the company it describes.
The last situation, a card that is not in the drawer, is now normal. Effective 20 April 2025, Qatar's immigration authorities moved the computer card from a physical document to a digital format. Physical cards are no longer being issued. Whether that change is permanent has not been settled, so keep watching for updates.
If a client, a bank or a government counter asks you to print the establishment card, Qatar's digital format is what you will be producing. Confirm with the party asking what form they will accept.
Establishment card Qatar, step by step
The route below is for a first issue, for the main office or a branch. Renewal follows the same path with a different menu option, covered at step 6.
Step 1 is to confirm the commercial register is active. Check the commercial register at MOCI before you open Metrash. The application depends on it, and an inactive register ends the request before payment.
Step 2 is to confirm the commercial licence is active. Check the commercial licence at MOCI as well. The register and the licence are separate records, and each one has to be active on the day you apply. If you are still forming the company, the card comes after both are in place. Our guide to starting a business in Qatar as a foreigner sets out where it sits in the wider sequence.
Step 3 is to confirm who is authorised to apply. The applicant must be authorised by MOCI. Decide who that is before you start, because the login uses that person's QID number and Metrash password. For a branch card, also confirm that the main establishment is active. The branch application relies on it.
Step 4 is to open the establishment service in Metrash. Sign in to Metrash with the authorised person's QID and password. From the main screen, go to General, then Establishment, and pick the issuance option for a main or subsidiary registration. Choose Main for the head office or Subsidiary for a branch. Enter the licence number or the registration number when the app asks for it.
Step 5 is to review the details and pay. Metrash shows the establishment card data before you continue. Read it against your MOCI records, then move on to payment. Issuing an establishment card in Qatar costs QAR 200, paid by bank card inside Metrash. Have the bank card ready before you begin.
Step 6 is to renew from the same menu. Renewal uses General, then Establishment, then Update/Renew Establishment. Select the company, check its information, pay the fee shown and submit. Establishment card renewal in Qatar also costs QAR 200, and Metrash displays the fee before you submit. Renew when the commercial register and licence are renewed, so the three records stay in step.

Your documents checklist
- An active commercial register at MOCI
- An active commercial licence at MOCI
- The QID and Metrash login of a MOCI-authorised person
- The licence number or registration number
- A bank card for the QAR 200 fee
- For a branch, an active main establishment
The checklist above covers either route, a first issue or a renewal.

The step people skip
The step people skip is putting the card's expiry on the same calendar as the commercial register and licence. The expiry date is shown on the card itself, so read it there and plan from it.
An expired card blocks the immigration transactions that rely on it, because an active register and licence are preconditions for the card. The employee visa work handled under HR and manpower depends on it.
One correction is worth making. Older press reports describe an automatic renewal of the establishment card. That was a temporary measure, and renewal today is a request you submit in Metrash.
If you would rather hand the renewal calendar to someone else, our PRO services cover this work. Book a consultation to set it up.

When the delay sits somewhere else
Sometimes the card is a symptom. If Metrash rejects the request, the cause is usually upstream at MOCI. It is a register or licence that has lapsed, or an authorisation that was never granted.
Fix the MOCI record first. A second attempt in Metrash will fail for the same reason until the register, the licence and the authorisation are all in order.
If the company itself is still being formed, the card belongs at the end of setup. Mavensmark sets up companies in Qatar from the choice of structure through to the day the company can trade, and that covers free zone and QFC companies too.
If the company is closing, the question changes again. Mavensmark offers independent valuation and runs a managed liquidation for a company that is closing.
If your company establishment card in Qatar is due, or a visa is waiting on it, book a consultation.
